J.V. and Freshmen Teams take 1ST PLACE in tournaments
What happens when you build a program, starting from scratch, for 3 years and finally get to the point where athletes become true students of the game? - YOU WIN TOURNAMENTS. On April 11th and April 12th history was made for the Glenbard West Boys Volleyball Program. Our Junior Varsity Team went 2 for 3 winning the Willowbrook tournament and our Freshmen Team went 4 and 0 winning the Glenbard East Springfest. Both teams worked hard, utilizing it's bench size to successfully take down their opponents. Thanks to all of the parents who supported our Hilltoppers this weekend and thanks to Coach Dan Scott, Peter Mastandrea (HAPPY BIRTHDAY) and George Ellis for their continuous efforts to build a dynasty. Coach Giunta-Mayer is so proud of our athletes and very touched with how our athetes represent Glenbard West High School, both in spirit and on the board! - GO WEST!!

John Shurna, Glenbard West Wins Player of the Week by Chicago Sports who had the best week in March... The village of Glen Ellyn is crazy about Johnny Shurna. Within a matter of hours Johnny was able to accumulate 94% of the votes for player of the week. 788 voted, 742 responded for Johnny Shurna in which Chicago Sports awarded the Junior from Glenbard West High School $500.00 towards his school athletic program.
Johnny has just finished an amazing basketball season and has been a member of the Glenbard West Volleyball Team for 3 years.
Shurna's fall volleyball regimen gave him springs to block 3 shots in both the first and third quarters. He finished strong through waves of East Aurora arms and bodies. "My teammates just put it in a good place for me to get it," he said. "I have to give the credit to my teammates." .... Daily Herald |
